Week 11

As for this week the main experience that I had was to check the monthly receipts for the month of February. The checking of the receipts was categorized in two items.Item 1 had comprise of receipt that was for: Tender documents,Quote fees, Application form and Membercard duplicate, While Item 2 comprised of receipts that invloved disposal of assets. On finding these receipts I recorded them separately in Excel sheet, and then later find the total of the two items separately. As I quickly checked the first file given , I then turned to the second file, only to realize that I was not checking some of the items in Item 1. So I had to ask the finance officer to return to me the first file and re-check each entry.

 

At some point of time during this week I fell sick, so I couldn't report to the office. Luckily I was only sick for two days. As I returned to the office at the end of the week there was so much files that required to be analysed and recorded. I remember on this day I and my other two fellow interns we had been so busy that we had to forgo lunch. Nonetheless I think the main reason for not going to lunch did not stop us from being effecient.

 

I learnt that from the events that happened this week sometimes while in the working world it was significant to be honest to oneself. This is because when I started feeling sick, I forced myself to go to the office  at the end of the day I ended up being not so productive. Furthermore I learned that whenever I feel that something is not right then its important to accept the feeling and try to find the solution for it.

 

Week 12

 

 

 

 

 

 

Being the last week at NSSF Tanzania HQ I was excited and sad at the same time. I was sad because to me it felt like the time I spent there was so short, I felt like I needed more time in order to learn more and improve more. I was excited that this was my last week because I was exhausted with dealing with public transport in the morning.

 

Anyways this week the officers were not back yet, and so I and the remaining interns we would just record the files that arrived at the office for different purposes such as refund and realloacation. Apart from that the most important experience that I encountered this week was dealing with the Principal Accountant from one o the regions in Tanzania. I was scared and not sure on how to tackle his problem because he had called via the office extension line and there was literally no officer that I could send the problem to. What I was really happy when I was dealing with this Principal Accountant is that he believed that I could be of help even if I was just an intern with no much experience.

 

In general this week was manageable and I learnt that it was essential to have good communication skills when dealing with different people of different age and ranks. As  during this week I had to deal with totally different staffs inside and outside the office. I also learnt that in life you never know who is going to be of help to you so it is important to treat everyone with respect . Also I learnt that keeping records is so important , as I had to record each Invoice received even though they were not going to be analysed soon.
