Week 1

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On arriving for the first time at the NSSF Tanzania HQ I was abit nervous, but luckily the department welcomed us very well. Since it was at the end of the year the personnels in the treasur department were busy finalising the financial statement for the July 2013 to December 2014. The officers were busy and preparing themselves to travel to the other regions of Tanzania according to the allocation. 

 

And so for the first day I was given a quick introduction about everyone in the department and as well about the ones who were not present for that day. Later on I was given the NSSF Plan Budget Book for the year 2014/2015. According to my Supervisor (Finance Officer) the budget book was an important reference in daily tasks that I was going to be given.  So from morning up to afternoon I spend reading and asking for clarification from about anything that i couldn't understand. Since the finance officers were not going to be in the office  for next whole week and the other interns were on a break. The department gave me and my other fellow inters (Anna and Elias) a break. Later on I was given a task to write the refund analysis for one of the region, since it was my first time I got assistance from the finance officer.

 

The main lesson that I learnt that it was important to understand the explaination given , this is because on the first day I only explained once on different matters. Furthermore I realized that it is important to be humble and respect everyone no matter their rank this is because I got better explaination from the guard lady before reaching the treasury department.

 

Week 2

 

On the second week of my internship we showed up at the office even though all the finance officer had not been present since the treasury manager was present. During this whole week I spent more time getting to know more about the department and their protocols. The old intern students in the same department assisted us more with different explaination. The other interns were helpful since they had been there for a bit long time.

 

On some other day I was given a refund analysis writing, I was worried if I was going to write it well . What really worried me is the fact that the work was to be sent to the Treasury Manager directly, I was somehow scared as the previous week the work was first sent to the finance officer. However the worrying did not stop me from doing the task assigned to me.

 

This week really taught me the importance of having good communication skills and I realized that I need to work on my self -confidence. It is important to have good communication skills so as to  make it easy when dealing with different level and background. Sometimes I think I failed to explain myself well  on some unclear issue around the office to my fellow interns. Better self-confidence has to be improved on my part  as  there was no need to worry when I had to report my work to the treasurt manager. The challenge that I was facing is that when am not familiar with the new enviroment I tend to be not talkative and people around me end up not communicating with me more.
