6th Week (Wk beginning 2nd Feb'15)

Week 5

This was a very exciting week in the office while I was doing my internship, during this week the external auditors were visiting NSSF Tanzania HQ. Almost everyone in the office was tensed when I arrived in the morning, the officers kept sending us up and down to take the files to the right department. Most of the time before lunch time I spent it moving from one office to another shifting unwanted materials or files. Apart from the coming of the external auditors the remaining days of the week the assignments given were all about writing analysis on refund requested by a number of regions. This time I had learn't my lesson to not work alone but rather ask my other intern to assist me to double check my work before sending to the finance officer.

While doing the refund analysis  the next day I faced some difficulty on one of the entiries ,however on asking some clarification from my fellow intern,we ended up consulting the finance officer who then directed us on how to come about the entry which was complicated to me.

For what happened during this whole week I had noted mainly two lessons. The first one is that it is important to follow rules and regulations, this was my reflection on seeing how everyone in the directorate of finance were in full uniform and wearing their badges in the morning before the external auditors arrived. Due to their actions I realized that it doesn't matter the kind of rank they had but they saw the importance of appearing in a proper uniform. Moreover I saw the significance of working in a team, as I could see the difference on my work when I worked alone and when I worked in a group with my fellow intern. In order to be effiecient it is important in the future to work more in a team and learn more.

Week 6

The most important assignment was given , I got assigned to do calculations and recording of money markets (that is, Investments done by NSSF Head Office with some selected banks in Tanzania).  I remember doing this task alone and the explaination was given to me quickly as the officers were going to a meeting. And so when I was doing the work I was a bit scared of making some mistakes. The work was done using microsoft excel, when the other interns were going on with their tasks I had to make sure no distraction so I remember going to sit somewhere peaceful.Luckily I finished the task on time before the officer who had assigned me returned back from the meeting.

In the middle of the week one of the intern and I were directed to welcome the new intern who joined us in the treasury department. She was a friendly young lady and curious to learn which simplified the whole work of explaining to her about the department. On her arrival the next day the new intern and me were asked to assist the personal secretary of the director of finance to work in Directorate of Human Resources and Adminstrations. While working in this department the personal secretary and us we were checking the condition of assets and recording by giving the remarks (the remarks were; good, very good, bad and very bad). The main reason for doing this task was so as to assist the procurement department on knowing which department needed to be purchased new assets. The task was tiring as we had to literally to work room to room checking the assets one by one , on the other hand it was a nice way of getting to know other staffs working in the head office in other departments that I had no clue they exist.

I learnt that when given instruction it is crucial to careful listen as in the future I am expected to do the task by myself , obviously my future boss would give instruction less or quickly. As for the time that I was required to explain about the department I learnt it was important to be patient with people. Also it was important to be helpful as there was a time that we had to repeat some expalination over and over .  Lastly I realized that for the time that I had been in NSSF Tanzania HQ my communication skill had improved to some extent. This is because when I met the staffs in Directorate of Human Resources and Adminstrations I met different people with different personalities , thus I had to deal with them accordingly. At first it felt hard dealing with them but then when I saw how the personal secretary dealt with different people differently I learnt from her.
